"The objective of the course is to analyze geopolitical thought as a component of contemporary political philosophy. The course will survey major Western geopolitical thinkers, including: Mackinder, Haushofer, Kennan, Kissinger and Huntington. Alternative and opposing geopolitical discourses (Soviet, Third-worldist, Islamist, Environmentalist and anti-capitalist) will also be studied. The role of geopolitical ideologies in International Relations and strategic policy-making will be analyzed. The course is based on primary sources and involves bibliographic research."
