Introduction

The purpose of this course is to first examine the political organization of the Shi‘ite party, Hizballah, in Lebanon and understand what its main political messages are. Second, is to examine its satellite TV station, al-Manar and using discourse analysis, to understand how the television programs (other than the news) help disseminate the party’s message to the people. In particular, the course will look more closely at the programs made for and broadcast for children.
