Introduction

This is an introductory course to social theory which will endeavor to provide students with a relatively in-depth knowledge of the major strands of social theory that continue to shape our understanding of society. They should also see that theories are not mere abstractions, but are rather tools to be used for understanding; that without them, society cannot be known or shaped in any coherent way.
