"The course is designed to incorporate both theory and practical research methods in the Social Sciences. The course introduces students to the scientific method by discussing the role of theories, concepts, hypotheses, variables and data. Students learn how to construct a research question, how to determine and measure variables, and how to collect and appraise different types of data from a variety of sources. Qualitative methods are given special emphasis as quantitative methods are covered in the Social Statistics course (SSC 2401). The course requires students execute a number of practical in-class and take-home exercises."
