This course is an introduction to the study of the Arab world; both the Mashriq (Arab East) and the Maghrib (Arab West). The course will examine Arab Culture , the large number of shared practices and beliefs among all Arabs, as well as the cultural specifics of various regions within the Arab world. The course is organized around social-political structures and basically is divided into the two main divisions of traditional Arab society; Hadar or settled life of urban and village communities and the Badw or pastoral nomads.
