"The objective of the course is to analyze the spatial deployment of power by analyzing political entities, identities and interests at different scales. Emphasis will be placed on the State, with definitions of national sovereignty, territory and borders. Domestic governance and territorial administration will also be discussed. International and global institutions will be analyzed in relation to contemporary economic (trade, resource and environmental management) and military activities. The course is based on a textbook and supplementary readings. Students are required to conduct bibliographic research and to write a number of essays and papers."
